I opened this blog to provide our guests (past, present and future) with a clear line of communication to the upper management of the resort. I am here to listen and help.

    Ahert’s Supermarket is located on Route 940 about five miles from the resort in Blakeslee, PA. If you come to Split Rock from the east and get off on Exit 284 from I-81, you will see Aherts on the way to the resort.

    hi Sam,
    I have been in your resort a few times and always enjoyed our stay. I booked again today for this weekend , booked at 5pm, at 6:30 i got a call and found out that i have an emergency to deal with and can’t go away, at 7pm I called to cancel and they won’t cancel our reservation, I can’t believe that this hotel that is family friendly has no consideration for family emergencies. My name is eileen beere and I booked through hotels.com …i feel like i have been tricked, the policy said cancellation could be done on 2-10 up to 11:59 pm , but I booked on 2-11. My husband called stephanie many times to try and sort this out and she was very rude and wouldn’t help us out at all. I feel that this is a holiday weekend and you can get another customer for this room , she said they have had to turn people away, so there will definitely be someone to take this room, can you help us out at all?????????

    I believe Jack Frost and Big Boulder are both open during the Christmas to New Year’s week unless there is no snow. Big Boulder opened last week so I assume there is enough snow for skiing.

    Split Rock has a sledding hill and charges $5 per seld to use the hill. It is not cold enough for our pond to freeze for ice skating; hopefully it will freeze by Christmas. There is no fee for skating and we do not rent saktes.

    The water park will be waiting for you.

    This will be our first visit to your resort at Split Rock and we are hoping for a wonderful stay. We exchanged our time share through RCI and will be staying the Christmas week, Dec 19th – 26th. Me and my wife will be bringing 3 Grandkids, ages 3, 7 and 10 with us and woundering what special activities are scheduled during this week.

    Our confirmation states we will be staying in Unit 154. I call and was told this was in Moseywood Villas. I’m a bit concerned, because of some negative reviews of stays at Split Rock. I can not find any reviews on the internet for stays at the Moseywood Villas. Has this unit been renovated recently?

    If you have your own snowmobile, Hickory Run State Park has some excellent runs; it is about five miles from the resort.

    I am not aware of anyone that rents snowmobiles to operate on their runs in the Pocono area. Alvins in Mt. Pocono was the last one I know of and it is about 14 miles from the resort.

    You may want to contact the Pocono Mountain Visitor’s Bureau for additional information – 800-762-6667.

    Jody Cardoni, our Activity Director, will contact you with the schedule for Christmas week.

    The Moseywood units were revenoated about six years ago. The appliances were replaced last year..
    The units are a two bedroom town house type time share accommodation overlooking our golf course. I do not receive any negative comments on the Moseywoods and assume you will be satisfied with them.

    I’m very sorry that it has taken me this liong to write back, but I did want to thank you for the upgrade to Willowbrook. As billed, the units are beautifully appointed, large and very well equipped. We again had a very relaxing and pleasant week at the resort. Kudos again to Doc and his staff for providing us with lots of fun activities- the pumpkin roll was a blast

    We have sleds available for $5.00 each and our sledding hill is a lot of fun. If there is enough snow we have snowshoe hikes, snowman making constest, snow fort building and the like. Check Doc Holiday’s daily activity sheet for a complete listing.

    We do rent sleds for $5 a day. Our insurance carrier will not allow privately owned sleds on the hill. Our sledding hill takes you down the lower section of our old ski trail and it is a lot of fun.

    had such a great time last year during presidents week that we are planning on coming back again in 2010! had a great time tubing nearby and then relaxing by the fire in the bar area and swimming with our son. we had a lot of fun at the morning movie and the planned scavenger hunt. there were a lot of organized activities for the kids and my son loved going downstairs every morning to pick up the days schedule! so much to do to keep us busy the whole day!! wish the main restaurant by the indoor pool area would have accomodated us for valentines dinner, though. we went down to a nearly empty restaurant and they denied us entry because of nearing reservations and we were forced to go into town for dinner. would have rather spent our time and money at the resort. we did speak to the manager at the restaurant and he was very rude. we did report this incident ( which was the only negative thing we had to say) but did not get much of a response. this, however, will not prevent us from coming back. just hope that manager could deal a little more friendly with the guests!

    Hi Sam. We bring our family and friends to Split Rock often and love the resort. However, we don’t love the game room at all. For years, there has been talk of upgrading/replacing the games with a new provider. Definitely needs it! When we were up a couple of months ago, half of the games were out of order. Its very dark and dirty down there too. We are coming up this week and not looking forward to letting the kids play in there. Will the game room be improved come our big family trip in the summer?

The activities you offer will be great for them, thats what excited me about your place.     1. Are there laundry facilities in the Galleria?

    2. We have invited another couple to join us – if possible, can we request a suite w/ 2 queens, rather than one with twins?

    we have 2 kids that want to participate in many of the activites and waterpark but we could only get a room in the lodge how can we change to be in the main building as many of the reviews state that it is very difficult and a long wait for a trolley or bus.

    Hi Sam, I am trying to book our next vacation at Splitrock, on April 10-17th. We have RCI for our exchange. RCI does not have “Willowbrook” availability. I think this is where we want to stay. There will be six of us (our children: Victoria-15, Julie-13, & Kurtis-11, plus their grandmother, and my wife & I. I am concerned about the sleeping arrangements. With a 2-BR/sleep 6 or 2-1BR/sleep 4 each, I don’t know what would accommodate us best. The girls can sleep in one room but that would leave my son to sleep with his grandmother. Should we bring an air mattress or cot? How can you help us and what reccommodations do you have for our stay? Thank you and Happy New Year!

    We are staying in Willowbrook (2br) on an II exchange beginning 21 Jan. I looked on the timeshare website but could not find a floorplan. Do you know where I can get one?

    Also, how strictly is the one-car parking policy enforced? We have family staying with us, but they are coming from a different location than we are. We want to make sure they will be able to park and use the resort.

    I just recently reserved a villa at Westwood for June 27-July 4th. I stay ed there last year as a guest and enjoyed it so much that we purchased an even year timeshare. I have some questions: I know the villas are being renovated — is it completed yet — and if not how do I make sure I receive a renovated unit? Also, I was told there would be fireworks by the lake on July 3rd – can you tell me about the event?

    Hi Sam,
    Although my children enjoyed the waterpark it was a huge pain to carry everything and dry them off as it was freezing and snowing out. The van only comes every hour so you must stand around and wait. All the activites my children wanted to do were in the Gallieria and were very disappointed when we missed an acitivity because we were waiting for the van. The activites they did make were very enjoyable so it was very unfortunate for them to miss some. When we arrivied we asked to be put on a waiting list for an available room at the Galleria, and we were never notified of any openings ,yet we were meeting people that had just walked in and were able to get rooms. Don’t understand why this happened. Being stuck at the lodge really put a damper on our vacation which the kids were really looking forward to. I would have appreciated it if the people working at the front desk would have honored our request.
    It would have made a big difference for our experience at Split Rock.

    When making your reservations, ask owner services for a renovated unit and have them confirm it with you. We will be working on renovations for another two years.

    We will have a 25 minute fire works show on July 3rd at the Lagoon on Lake Harmony. The event is a lot of fun with large crowds.

    I just returned from another stay at the Galleria. My family and I enjoyed ourselves. However, one thing that kept us on edge was we were not able to sleep soundly. The problem was we stayed with our 4 year old son who sometimes likes to explore on his own. There are no deadbolts on the doors (out of his reach) to prevent him from taking off in the middle of the night. The deadbolt on the door is easily unlocked when anyone tries to open the door including a 4 year old.

    Having a secure door would have made our stay much more relaxing.

    Dear Sam – My family and I are very disappointed in the buffet dinner this year for NYE. Staff seemed overwhelmed, there were no plates and no adult drinks after 9 PM – the bar staff simply left. Also, there was very little soda left and no diet soda at all! We were also placed at a dirty table that needed linens changed for 20 mins! When I did finaly get a plate (a small salad plate), there was nobody to cut the prime rib or server any food for almost 10 mins!

    I know Im not the only person who felt this and it was as evidient by the long lines to speak to the manager on the floor that night – I feel for him. I hope SplitRock will learn from this and provide a better service for next year.

    BTW – The Prime Rib was EXCELLENT once I got a piece! Very Very good!

    Also are any meals included? I browsed the site and read somewhere breakfast and lunch were included, but only read that in the timeshare section, does that apply to us?

    I just exchanged to Split Rock through RCI for June 19-26. Our unit # is identified as #152. Could you tell me where this is and if it is a renovated unit? Also, on the RCI website it mentions that most amenities are additional fees. Do you have a price list available for the amenties that require additional fees?

    Unit 152 is in our Moseywood section. It overlooks the golf course and is about 1/8 mile from the Galleria. It is not a one hundred percent renovated unit. All of the appliances have been replaced within the last year and the units painted.     The photo is Paul Newman when he was about my age. I replaced my photo with his because so many people asked me to use another picture since I looked like a grump and the photo did not do me justice. I always wanted to look like Mr. Newman and I did not think he would mind so he took my place.

    Now that the secret is out, I will have to move on from Mr. Newman. Do you have any suggestions?

    Have a reservation at split rock on 1/22 to 1/24 for a weekend of splash and ski for me and my family of five. Would like to know if split rock offers any discount (especially for families) to ski at JFBB. Would like to make this an annual trip for me and my family but after making the split rock reservation and discovering the cost to ski for one day to be over $360 I’m not so sure.

Also the waitress at the Galleria restaurant, Dot, for evening service was terrific and deserves cudos as does the omlette maker in the morning whose name I think is Gregg, unless he was just saying that as a play on words, Gr”egg”, regardless…he was friendly and professional and made a good omlette.

    There is a beach area at the lake called “The Lagoon” but it is not open this time of year as it is a bit cold for swimming. From Memorial Day through Labor Day it is open daily from 10 AM till dusk.

    There are rental boats and kayaks and you can walk to the beach from the Lodge, Cottages, Moseywoods and Galleria. The walk from Willowbrook is a bit far so you may want to drive is you stay there.

If you prefer to be inside where all the activity is you will like the Galleria. I personally like the renovated Villas.

    I just wanted to let you know what a nice time we had. My family stayed 1-16-10 to 1-18-10 for my wife’s and my anniversary. We had a nice time. The whole family loved the waterpark. The indoor pool is nice too. The place we stayed was remarkable as well. I believe it was the Willowbrook. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the movie theater as well. I was unsure what to expect. I’d give the whole experience a 9 out of 10. The only things that dampened the experience were the inconsistent service in the Galleria dining room and the ice cream parlor leaves a lot to be desired. There were too many things that were empty or not working right, and the service in the parlor was slow. In the dining room, the chef that made the waffles was good. The food was good too, but the waitresses we had kept forgetting stuff and would disappear for long periods of time. The people who handle check-in are all very nice, helpful, and really made things easier. Great time overall. We look forward to coming back soon.

    In a few days (02/15) my family and I will be staying for a few days at the Galleria (VIP suite, not sure what that means but it sounds nice). We have never stayed at the resort before but are excited abut giving it a try. I was doing some research on things to do in the area and came across a lot of negative, unflattering reviews of the resort. Everything from dirty sheets and rooms to uncaring, uninterested employees, my wife has read the same thing and is worried now about the trip.
    I do a lot of traveling for work and I know that things happen no matter where you stay but if you could just write something to me that attests to the quality of the resort etc. I would really appreciate it. (it would probably prevent us from canceling)

    Also Is there somewhere on the site that details how much each of the activities cost? bowling, basketball courts etc.

    Lastly, as a first time visitor I found a lot of value in reading all the blog posts and your responses. It’s a great idea.

    There is also a lot of positive comments out there about the resort as well. You may want to consider the source of some of the negative comments: some by individuals that never stayed here, former employees, our competition, children, pranksters and the like. Do we have negatives, you bet, just like any other property we have rooms that do not get cleaned, soiled linen that gets by our inspectors, some units that do show wear but it is not even close to what some people will post on Internet sites. I do not put too much faith into anything someone writes and will not sign their name to.

    If you are looking for a five star resort you will not find one at Split Rock. What you will find is a three star property with more amenities and activities than any other resort in the area. We are located between two ski areas (Jack Frost and Big Boulder) as well as many other area attractions. Our comment cards tell us we more than satisfy 90% of the guests who stay and 90% indicate they will come again.

    There are some other excellent fishing areas at Francis Walter Dam and Hickory Run State Park. You may want to check them out as well since they are only a short distance from the resort.

    WOW!!! Still talking about the great time we had at split rock Feb 14 – 21. Our accomodations at Westwood were wonderful!! Would have liked to have had a washer/dryer in the unit and quieter heaters!!! My only suggestion would be upon arrival/check in process, we were not informed of the availability of discount skiing tickets that were available at the resort. When 10 are going skiing, every little bit helps!! Again, we had a wonderful time and are looking to make some plans for next years vacation as well. PS We ended up in 2 renovated units. Thanks

    Many of our activities are free and scheduled daily by Doc Holiday and his gang. Bowling is $3 per game, first run movies ate $7.50 adults, tennis court rental is $10 per hour and basketball is $5 per hour, mini golf is $5 per round. I hope this gives you an idea of the recreational fees. The bus tours to NYC are arranged through a outside contractor and you can inquire at check in about this service. The Pocono area is full of attractions for the whole family and our lobby brochure booth is full of information on this subject.

    Can you just have drinks at Bel’lago? thinking that dinner might be better at Galleria with kids and then head over to Bel’ago to see the lake??? Also, do you have to reserve bowling alley ahead of time? We might want to bowl in the afternoon on Saturday.

    We just got back from the resort and were very pleased with our Westwood unit which was a renovated one (thanks to you). It was very large and impeccably cleaned. We enjoyed all of the activities and even won at Bingo! Even though it was a holiday week it did not seem crowded at all. Loved the food at the Bel’lago – all the staff at the resort were very friendly.
    Got a kick out of the wild turkeys running in the woods behind our unit!

Our friends are also joining us but will be staying in a 1 bedroom suite. Our plan is to visit the water park all day on Saturday and then do some snow tubing at either Jack Frost of Big Boulder on Sunday.
    Karen Keating made our reservations and she is such a nice woman. She answered all my questions and with me being a first timer at Split Rock I had a lot of questions.
    Are there any hints and/or tips we should know about when staying at Split Rock? Is there a market or some place to buy milk at Split Rock or do we have to travel to a store? What restaurants are close by?
    Any information you can give me would be appreciate.

    I can’t think of any tips to offer. You can purchase food staples in our gift shop at the Galleria. There is Ahert’s supermarket at Blakeslee about five minutes away. For restaurants you may want to try Bel’lago, High Elevations, The Village Squire, Boulder View and Robert Christans. Our front desk has the directions.

    My sisters family and me and the twins came 2 weeks ago to go to the waterpark, 1 of my twins lost her wrist band and they would not let her back in without me having to pay again!!!! i told them Im not sure what she did but she got it off, check your computer I told her as I spent well over $100 for the 3 of us. My question is now i am coming 3/6 – 3/13/10 and wanted to know is there anyway i can get a reimbursement or free usage for 1 band this stay or at lease a nice discount? They would not let her in the pool without any band and that was very upsetting for a 5 year old no less a girl lol
    I hope you can accomodiate me and my 2 kids had to leave to pool park couldnt have 1 in and not the other.

We are so excited to be able to take our children (ages 5 and 9) skiing for the first time and to spend some quality time with the in-laws. Can you please tell me the price of the discount tickets to JFBB that you offer?
    Also, we were questioning laundry facilities since we will most likely have sopping wet gloves, hats, etc. after our first time skiiers attempt to stay on their feet. We are not sure what area of the resort we have been placed and do not know if we have laundry in our place. Is it possible for you to check on that for us? Also, have we been placed in a renovated unit? I know that Split Rock is in the process of updating the units, and am just concerned the condition of the unit with my adventurous 5 yr. old. We are in unit 2546.

Can you let me know what the layout is? Also, the website said some rooms might not have windows. I hope that’s a misprint because we’ll get a little claustrophobic without windows. Last question: after we check out, will we have a place to put luggage and to clean up so we can stay a few more hours at the resort?

I was able to trace your reservation and it is for a two bedroom unit that sleeps six. If you forward your confirmation number I will make sure you have an exterior unit with windows. After check out, the front desk can store your luggage until you are ready to leave the property.

    The Galleria does have comfortable units for two adults and two children. The Lodge has not been been renovated recently and it rooms are in good condition for their age. I think you will be more comfortable at the Galleria with children and I have no problem moving you there at no additional cost if we have the space available.
